Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 23, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Woodz collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. Woodz is a free browser-based board game and is designed to collect as little information as possible.
1. Information We Collect
- Game data you create: board positions, moves, captured pieces, and game codes. Pass-and-play games are stored in your own browser, not on our servers.
- Online play data: when you host or join an online game, the game code, player role, and current board position are stored so both players can see the same game.
- Account information: if you sign in, we receive basic profile details such as your email address and display name.
- Technical information: standard server logs such as device type, browser, and error diagnostics used to keep the game working.
2. How We Use Information
- To run the game and keep local and online matches in sync.
- To save your progress and settings in your browser so you can pick up where you left off.
- To diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and improve gameplay and interface quality.
- To respond to support requests you send us.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your game data for advertising.
3. Cookies and Local Storage
Woodz uses your browser's local storage to remember things like your current game, whether you have dismissed the rules reminder, and whether coordinate labels were on or off. This data stays on your device and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings.
If you sign in, cookies may be used to keep you logged in. Blocking cookies may prevent sign-in and online play from working.
4. Online Play and Other Players
In online games, limited information is shared with your opponent: your player role (Player 1 or Player 2), the moves you make, and your display name if you are signed in. Game codes are meant to be shared with the person you want to play, so only send them to people you trust.
5. Sharing of Information
We only share information with service providers that help us operate the game, such as hosting and database providers, and only to the extent needed to run the service. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety and rights of our players.
6. Data Retention
Local game data remains in your browser until you clear it or start a new game. Online game records are kept while the match is active and for a reasonable period afterwards for troubleshooting, then removed or anonymized.
7. Your Choices and Rights
- Clear your local game data at any time using Restart or your browser settings.
- Leave an online game at any time to stop further syncing of that match.
- Request access to, correction of, or deletion of account information by contacting us.
8. Children's Privacy
Woodz is suitable for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal information from children beyond what is described above. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will remove it.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical measures to protect the information we handle. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the game evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above, and continued use of Woodz means you accept the revised policy.
11. Contact
Questions about this policy or your data can be sent to us through the support channel listed in the app.
